That means, if he’s going to get beaten, he will have to be beaten down using blunt force, something Goku is used to dishing out (all of his techniques are of this nature), and something Superman is used to taking and surviving.
A winning scenario for Superman would involve him taking the same approach as when he faced Doomsday (who’s adaptive nature is really not that different from a Saiyan’s).
First off, he starts from extreme long range, making full use of those super senses. A focused heat vision beam (it’s not laser vision… it’s pure heat projected into a single area) fired from space preemptively made could end the game right there and then.
Goku’s primary weakness is that, Super Saiyan or not, he still needs to breathe and cannot stand the stress of the vacuum of space. SO even if he can use planet-busters, doing so would be more damaging to him than Superman, particularly if Superman is able to survive the blunt trauma of the initial blast wave. Further, if Goku does blow up the sun, he’d be condemning himself to destruction as well.
Now, assuming the preemptive attack fails, and Goku is able to sense the origin of the space-based attacks (which could be done more or less indefinitely), and he teleports to Superman’s location, Goku would be at a serious disadvantage:
1. He’d unable to utilize most of his hand-to-hand techniques (which requires leverage (i.e. ground, briefly suspended debris, his opponents) in a gravity well).
Likewise, in space, Goku’s kamehameha would be largely ineffective because all it would do is push them away from each other (remember Newton’s third law?), while Superman can still make pin-point attacks using his heat-vision without suffering this penalty overmuch.

He’d still have to deal with cosmic radiation – if Goku’s cells are human enough that he can be infected by a virus (Cell Saga), and produce viable offspring with humans (Gohan), it’s reasonable to assume that his cells are human enough to be seriously damaged by ionizing radiation. Saiyans can make barriers that can might protect them from this kind of damage, but it is explicit in the manga and anime that doing so requires constant effort and attention.
5. Superman still retains the option of forcing Goku to undergo extremes in environmental conditions in the course of the fight (i.e. atmospheric reentry, underwater battle, extreme exposure to solar radiation if he chooses to fight in the proximity of the sun…).
6. Most importantly, Goku’s stamina is considerably less that of Superman, especially in space. Superman can keep on recharging his in-built solar batteries, but Goku does have to eat sometime. This is a major disadvantage because we’ve seen Goku beaten because he was simply hungry during the fight.
Even if he decided to fight from Earth, he’d have to do so using his only long-distance technique (the kamehameha), which we can probably assume Superman is fast enough to dodge. If it becomes a battle of attrition, Superman wins easily.
Actually, the only way Goku would be able to win a fight with Superman in space, is if he somehow manages to grab a piece of kryptonite or a magic knife somewhere, and manages to teleport to Superman’s location, stab him with it, and return before dying (due to the pressure difference). But if we’re allowing Goku the use of technology, then we’ll also have to allow Superman to use his mastery of Kryptonian science (which is practically magic in the Silver Age DC universe)… So I’d say Superman still has a pretty good chance of winning assuming he doesn’t get taken by surprise.
So the take-home message is that: If it’s a standard physical martial arts battle on Earth, Goku would own Superman, but it will take quite a bit of doing, with massive collateral damage.. . However, if Superman wises up and chooses to take the fight beyond the atmosphere, then it is far more likely that Superman would win over Goku.
Actually, the worst mismatch is that between Majin Buu and Superman. 6. Most importantly, Goku’s stamina is considerably less that of Superman, especially in space. Superman can keep on recharging his in-built solar batteries, but Goku does have to eat sometime. This is a major disadvantage because we’ve seen Goku beaten because he was simply hungry during the fight.
Even if he decided to fight from Earth, he’d have to do so using his only long-distance technique (the kamehameha), which we can probably assume Superman is fast enough to dodge. If it becomes a battle of attrition, Superman wins easily.
Actually, the only way Goku would be able to win a fight with Superman in space, is if he somehow manages to grab a piece of kryptonite or a magic knife somewhere, and manages to teleport to Superman’s location, stab him with it, and return before dying (due to the pressure difference). But if we’re allowing Goku the use of technology, then we’ll also have to allow Superman to use his mastery of Kryptonian science (which is practically magic in the Silver Age DC universe)… So I’d say Superman still has a pretty good chance of winning assuming he doesn’t get taken by surprise.
So the take-home message is that: If it’s a standard physical martial arts battle on Earth, Goku would own Superman, but it will take quite a bit of doing, with massive collateral damage.. . However, if Superman wises up and chooses to take the fight beyond the atmosphere, then it is far more likely that Superman would win over Goku.
Actually, the worst mismatch is that between Majin Buu and Superman. Majin Buu can survive physical and energy attacks with ease, can survive in the vacuum of space, can teleport, AND can use magic (Superman’s most significant weakness). Of course, Majin Buu still bites the dust if we’re talking about the DC 1,000,000 Superman prime…

in theory a cool fight but in actuality just boring. Goku wins. He can destroy whole planets without breaking a sweat. The most damage I’ve ever seen superman do is widespread destruction at metropolis when fighting doomsday. and doomsday gave supie one hell of a fight. If that is enough to have superman weakened if not dead then how well do you he’d stand a full powered punch from from goku? he doesn’t need energy attacks when he can tear suuperman apart with his bare hands
Superman is a college nerd. Not a fighter. Without his power he is garbage. Goku is like Bruce Lee. A fighter who study and knows martial art. Superman could get his ass kick to kryton anytime by SSJ Goku!!
I love superman….everyone does if you dont you arent normal but i also love goku and im sorry this is no contest GOKU WOULD WIN easily. It would be good for about an hour until goku reached some new level of power. Superman is insane but his powers have alway been the same and he just improves them…gokus powers jump to unimaginable heights at the best times. But to be honest i think this is fight is determined by will not power ill admit when it comes to power superman has done some crazy stuff that alot of fans dont even know about but so has goku. Superman fights because he has to Goku has saved planets because he thought itd be fun. I dont think there has EVER BEEN a character with as much will and the determination to succeed and protect as Goku. His flat-out refusal to lose would hold out in my opinion. Plus how many weaknesses does goku have…………..literally none other than getting beat up before he wins. Superman has one major flaw……kryptonite. Put that in the hands of someone who is just as if not more strong than superman and this match is about 10 mins long? Superman has been defeated in different comics numerous times by people way weaker than him even Lex Luthor has defeated him on occasion (a mere human). How many times has goku lost to someone weaker than him. Never. I love them both but i get so frustrated with this topic because its so clear. Saiyans are on another level compared to any comic hero. I think the hulk would be harder to beat than superman. Goku is just the perfect hero. Hes so strong but so kind and carefree which is why he is so loved by fans. IF GOKU AND SUPERMAN FOUGHT 100 TIMES GOKU WOULD WIN 99. THE ONLY REASON SUPERMAN WOULD WIN 1 IS BECAUSE GOKU BEING SO NICE FELT SORRY FOR HIM.
